Now Wikipedia, the most reliable of sources describes this outfit as Indie folk, indie pop, neo soul (they forgot disco)- bit of a mouthful (well ear-full) really but these guys are in fact a mix of many things unusual- in fact I still haven’t made up my mind about them. Intrigued? Yes of course you are and that’s because monkey listeners count themselves pioneers in breaking tunes and all things musically acquired. Imagine if you will a polished 50’s tribute duo who have gone a little far in terms of illicit drugs and you may get the picture- tight harmonies, classic fifties shimmies and zippy tunes ending in a weird punk, indie kind of swirl. The vocals too, though wonderfully retro are also far more sleazy (in a good way I promise) as they betray a far more knowing husky edge – a hommage to Bardot no doubt.

The Biog Bit

Brigitte is a duo consisting of Sylvie Hoarau ( formerly the lead vocalist in Parisian rock band Vendetta) and Aurélie Saada. Formed in 2008 they describe themselves as retro, classic, 50’s in a word: ‘it’s French, it’s Brigitte Bardot, it’s Brigitte Lahaye, the aunt that cooks, the housewife. Brigitte is the woman in plural). Their 2011 debut full-length album Et vous, tu m’aimes?, went platinum in France. It is sold through both French and the U.S. iTunes Store.

Check it out

Song worth spending some time on include: ‘Battez Vous’, ‘Couer de Chewing Gum’ (for the title alone), ‘Monsieur je T’aime’, ‘English Song’ (now this one really is weird but worth it- this one actually channels Tammy Wynette…seriously) and for the Carnival in you ‘Je Veux en Enfant’. What these songs have in common is a wry little wink to the naive quality of 50’s- even 40’s and takes it to a truly unique sound. If you need proof of this then go to ‘Ma Benz’.

No events at the moment but if you want to check them out on their myspace page there will no doubt be tour dates coming up (fingers crossed!!)
